CASM Holds Conference on Differential Equations

The Centre for Advanced Studies in Mathematics (CASM), Department of MathematicsSBASSE arranged a three day International conference on Differential Equations and Applications, from May 26 – 28, 2016. The objective of the conference was to provide awareness of current advancements in differential equations and their applications in different field of sciences. 

The conference attracted more than 175 participants from various national and international institutes and universities which included University of Technology Malaysia (UTM), COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, NUST Islamabad, BZU Multan, GCU Lahore, University of Peshawar, UET Lahore, Balochistan University of IT and EM Quetta, University of Malakand, University of Karachi and many more from all over Pakistan. 

6 foreign speakers from USA, New Zealand, Russia, Korea and Germany also presented their papers at the conference. Dr. Norma Alias, Associate Proffessor, UMT along with two PhD students presented their papers as well. MS/PhD students also presented their research findings at the conference.

In the opening ceremony, Prof. Dr. S. Sohail H. Naqvi, Vice Chancellor LUMS, greeted all the national and international speakers and opened the conference with his remarks that Mathematics has applications in all fields. He also spoke about the overall research activities of all the six departments in SBASSE and assured the speakers that LUMS will continue  to support these kind of events in the future. The Scientific Director of CASM, Dr. Amer Rasheed, mentioned that the Centre was established in 2004 with the aim to promote mathematics in Pakistan by organising conferences and workshops. He conveyed his gratitude to Dr. Imran Naeem, Chair, Department of Mathematics and Prof. Dr. Shahid Masood, Dean, SBASSE for their support and cooperation to make this event successful. In the end, Dr. Amer Rasheed thaked HEC for providing financial support to arrange this event.
